A Night at Fashion District

Hi Lovelies

Happy Easter, hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. On Thursday night myself and Lisa D hit the road again on another little adventure. This time our destination was Fashion District Pop-Up Shopping Outlet in Mullingar’s Bloomfield House Hotel. We were kindly invited to the event by the lovely Elaine Bradley-Ryan. Elaine is a total fashionista and a stylist for our fave jewellery Stella & Dot (check out her Facebook page “Elaine Bradley-Ryan, Stella & Dot Stylist”). When we heard what was involved for the night we were all over it and super excited to go…fashion, jewellery, vintage, hair & makeup demos, free bubbly!!!

The event ran from 7-11pm and when we got there shortly after 7 it was in full swing. We didn’t waste any time and started to browse the fashion rails straight away. There was some gorgeous pieces for sale from some fab boutiques, Cocoon, Nells Closet, BeYoux and Deja Vu to name a few. The bargains were unbelievable, one dress that caught our eye was reduced from €218 to just €50!! A boutique we particularly liked the look of was Deja Vu (Deja Vu Ranelagh on Facebook). They had the prettiest Louboutins for sale, second hand but in perfect condition. We also spotted some Louis Vuitton and Jimmy Choo while we were there.

Being the magpies that we are we were totally besotted with all the Stella & Dot jewellery on show. I’m a big fan of Stella & Dot and hosted a trunk show last year. A stylist came to my house and all my friends came around and we could try on all the pieces and order anything we wanted to purchase. At the time I bought a gold charm bracelet with 4 charms and a delicate gold arrow necklace. I’ve worn both constantly since then and they’re still perfect. Our faves on display last night were these gorgeous stacking rings and the multiway earrings. Is it too early to start our 2016 Santy list??

After we had our fill of shopping we took our seats for the part we always enjoy most…the makeup demo. The makeup artist in action last night was Angela Greene of Monroe.ie. We were delighted to see some of our favourite products ready for the demo, we spied the Penneys brush holder and brush and the Cocoa Brown Golden Goddess oil. Angela seemed to be a makeup artist after our own hearts!! The demo was a quick and easy everyday makeup look achievable for busy mammys. Her finished look was beautiful and fresh and she showed us then how to make a few tweeks to turn it into a glam night-time look using Ken Boylan products. When Angela was finished we seen Vaida from First Floor Hair & Beauty create some easy-peasy hair looks to complement the makeup. We were busy taking notes and we can’t wait to try them out for ourselves.

The style on show rivalled any wedding or day at the races we’ve ever been to and it was no wonder with a prize for Best Dressed Lady up for grabs. Lisa McGowan from Lisas Lust List was judging the best dressed and her pick was gorgeous. The best dressed lady wore a beige ankle length jumpsuit with an Obi belt and tan boots, we had spotted her earlier and commented on how fab her outfit was!! To finish off the night we were treated to a style masterclass from stylist Julie Cobbe from Stylefish.ie. Julie talked us through how to detox our wardrobes….if you haven’t worn it in a year get rid, if it doesn’t fit you and hasn’t fitted you for a long time…get rid!! She also gave us great advice on dressing for our body shape and how to identify our body shape….as much as I would like to think I’m hourglass I’m afraid I’m more of an apple!! It was an eye opener and we came away with lots of new tips and learned lots.

We had a great night and we’re so looking forward to the next Fashion District but we might need a bus next time to bring all the girls (and our shopping!!) with us….

Until next time

Mac Makeup Haul Pt 2

Hello Ladies,

Previously I posted what foundations and concealers I purchased for my makeup kit that are completely essential for any budding makeup artist or die hard beauty junkie.  If you haven’t read it you can here.

My second part of my mac must-haves are of course their eye shadows.  Mac eyeshadows are just the bomb, they are so easily blendable and pigmented that you just can’t resist diving into their collection when you hit the store.  With a wide range to choose from its easy to pick up your favourite colour to make those twinkly eyes pop!

These are the ones I purchased starting with the very popular Texture, which is actually new to me, haven’t tried it before but it looks like a great transition colour. I have seen lots of MUA use it and of course had to have.

Texture by Mac Cosmetics

Then I just repurchased my favourites Patina and Satin Taupe.

Patina has to be the perfect lid colour for that natural but sutble smokey eye.  This is one of my go to shades for brides that want that soft smokey eye using neutral shades.

Patina by Mac
Satin Taupe has been one of my must-haves since I first bought my first one 5 years ago.  This colour is the perfect mauve/purple lid colour it’s amazing, if you don’t have this and are a complete Mac head you will not be disappointed.

Satin Taupe by Mac Cosmetics
Next up is a product I haven’t used before which is the Extented Play Lash Mascara.

To be honest, to me mascara is mascara, but I was really curious to try this out as I have seen the likes of my fav youtuber Jaclyn Hill and other MUA use this and wanted to see what the hype was all about.

I will update you when I test it out.  Appartently its great for the lower lashes and the wand is super small, which makes it easier and alot less messer to apply.  We’ll see!!

Next up was a new lippy!  If you haven’t heard of the Back to Mac concept well listen up!  Any mac 6 empties that you have can be brought back to the store and you receive a free lipstick of your choice, now isn’t that a bonus!  My choice was this beautiful deep wine colour a very vampy choice but wanted to get something different then a nude, as this is always my go to colour.  I haven’t tried this out but the swatch will give you an indicator of how this looks.

Hang Up by Mac Cosmetics

I then of course topped up my Strobe Cream and Fix Plus these two products are my holy grail products for prepping clients skin before makeup.  I have already expressed my love for these so Ill say no more!
So that’s it a very quick round up of my latest visit to Mac and probably my last for a while!!

Any questions on the products mentioned above just leave a comment below or on our facebook page Lisas’Livin’Pretty.

Until next time lovelies!

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm

Hi ladies and HAPPY FEBRUARY 🙂

I for one am glad to see the back of January, it’s definitely not my favourite month. So how are all the resolutions going?? I’m sure there’s one or two we might have started to let slip already?! I know some of mine are long gone out the window. There’s one I’ve managed to stick with though and that’s looking after my skin a bit better. I have been guilty before of the old quick swipe of a face wipe at the end of the day but I realise this is a major skin care no-no.

Ever since I seen the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm at Pippas Fashion Factory it has been on my wishlist, if it’s good enough for Pippa eh? So I was delighted when I got this cleansing balm at Christmas (thanks sis!!) It’s exactly what the doctor ordered for my tired, dull skin.

With some seriously lush ingredients like Rose and Mimosa waxes, Starflower and Elderberry this balm smells and feels amazing on the skin, It’s like a spa experience in a little jar. It’s supercharged with algae properties as well which is what gives it the anti-ageing affect, something I need to really work on now I’m heading for the big Three Oh!

The balm is a lovely luxurious consistency on the skin. You just smooth it on dry skin and it melts off any makeup or grime. It feels like a mini facial and then you remove it with a warm, damp cleansing cloth and the skin is left squeaky clean and silky smooth!! There’s even a lovely cleansing cloth included in the box. You can also use the balm as a mask, just apply a generous layer and leave it to do it’s magic for 10 minutes….fresh glowy complexion how are ya?!

It retails around the €60 mark which is a little bit spendy but the jar is 105grams and will last ages!! I’ve been using mine for over a month now and I’ve barely made a dent. It’s available to buy from any spa that carries the Elemis range or selected online stockists. Millies.com have it on sale at the minute for €48, perfect excuse to invest or maybe drop some hints for a Valentines treat……

Until next time,

My Top 2015 Beauty Buys

Hello Ladies,

Happy New year to you all!  I’m sure there were lots of resolutions made and goals set for 2016, I’m not great at resolutions to be honest but have made plenty of goals to aim towards!  So let’s start this year in positive mode!!

So this is my first post of 2016 and of course I’ll have to start it with some reflection on 2015 so I have put together ‘My Top 2015 Beauty Buys’ that I think are a must-have and would most definitely purchase again.

Let’s start off with the most sought after product of 2015 the ‘Pippa Palette’ by one of my favourite Bloggers and Fashionista’s Pippa O’Connor for Blank Canvas Cosmetics .

The palette has been the most popular buy of last year.  It was sold out within a number of days and given rave reviews by many of Ireland’s top beauty bloggers! It’s still going strong and I can see why, with so many fabulous shades to choose from, you can go from a day to night look using one palette to create a gorgeous makeup look.  This palette is ideal for travelling, it’s conveinently packaged for that lady that travels a lot, as it has all you need to complete your makeover!  This can be purchased on Blank Canvas Cosmetics

For a full review on The Pippa Palette just click here .

Nip + Fab Viber Venom Wrinkle Fix is a new and very interesting primer/serum that states will fix those fine lines that might be popping up on your face.  It’s to be used prior to moisturiser and before makeup.

It contains Liftonin-express + Syn-Ake which are basically two ingredients created by Nip + Fab.  Basically these ingredients apparently give you a mild-botox like effect on the skin.  It provides a tightening effect that lasts for hours. Does it work? To right it does!!

I’m amazed at this product it has completely changed how my foundation looks and feels on my skin.  At 37 I am unfortunately getting the dreaded lines but this has honestly helped!  I would probably only recommend this to anyone that has fine lines or on more mature skin but if you are blessed with perfect skin well then this is probably not for you!  This is a WOW product for me!
I purchased mine from Boots which is currently half price at €13.49 so pick it up quick because this is the next big thing for 2016. Click here to purchase.

My ultimate find of 2015 has to be the NYX Butter Glosses I cannot understand how these are not more readily available!  I love these glosses the payoff is fab and they smell amazing! If you would like to purchase any NYX products check out Meaghers Pharmacy retailing at €6.30, they are an online stockist of lots of makeup and skincare brands.

With so many shades to choose from you will most certainly find your perfect gloss for those pouty lips!

Next is this Blank Canvas Cosmetics F20 foundation brush.  This brush has to be my favourite go to brush to use on clients.  I love trying out brushes and I have a lot to choose from as I am obsessed about trying out new brands, but this for me has been exceptionally popular for me.

The F20 Flat Brush is made of short, dense synthetic fibres ideal for liquid, cream or powder products.  Stipple or buff your foundation onto your face with this super soft brush and notice the difference to your application.   This brush will set you back €14.99 for the Hot Pink HD Collection.

Blank Canvas have an array of brushes that I love but this one is what I recommend when I’m asked what foundation brush to buy.  These are affordable and definitely gives the likes of higher brands a run for their money.  Click here if you wish to purchase.

Mary-Lou Manizer is a fabulous honey hued luminiser which is a very popular choice when choosing a highlighter to give you that perfect healthy glow.

I use this highlighter on almost all my clients and the payoff is fabulous you will be catching everybody’s eye with theBalm‘s Mary-Lou Manizer as ‘the shimmer powder adds a gorgeous subtle glow to your face. The best selling Mary-Lou Manizer can be used to add extra definition by highlighting your cheekbones & brow bones or as an all over finish for your makeup’.  Available on Cloud10Beauty retailing at €20.50.  This is definitely worth the purchase as you can see mine is fairly well used but I have this for quite some time and little goes a long way.

Saving the best until last but by no means least the #girlboss of 2015 Marissa Carter and her famous Cocoa Brown empire.  Myself and Lisa Moore the other half of Lisas’ Livin’ Pretty had the pleasure of attending the launch of two new Cocoa Brown products at the Passion Persistence Pink party where Marissa herself unveiled these products.  Click here for a full review of these products.

These Instant Bronzing Gels have been a life saver for me, with four kids in tow this is the only product that I get a chance to lash on to give me a bit of colour before I head out on a night out.  You can purchase these from almost all Penneys, pharmacies or online beauty shops.  Marissa has done a fantastic job in creating these products and look forward to see what new products she creates for 2016!

That’s it from me for this week and I hope you enjoyed my Top 2015 beauty favourties!  I could of added a lot more but this post would of taken forever. But I hope I have given you some necessary info in the above products that you might be thinking of purchasing.  Let us know if you do as we would love to hear your feed back.

Until next time ladies,

Live Pretty.

Christmas Gift Guide – The Best Gift Of All

Hi Everyone.

And here we are it’s Christmas week, only a few more sleeps before the big man comes and we’re all tucking in to our turkey dinners!! We hope you have enjoyed our Christmas Gift Guide so far and we made your shopping even a little bit easier. As this is our last instalment of the gift guide we thought long and hard about what we wanted to recommend. We wanted something that would mean a lot to receive, that doesn’t cost a fortune and that’s easy to get now that we’re down to the last few shopping days…

….and then it dawned on us. The best present any of us can give to our loved ones is to be just that……be present. Christmas is such a magical time of the year. For many of us it might be the only time we have our families all together under one roof and we need to savour these times. These days time seems to be going so fast and life is flying by in a whirlwind of work, busy weekends, housework and other boring stuff. So while we have the chance we should spend as much time with loved ones as possible. One day the kids won’t be kids anymore or maybe some of our nearest and dearest won’t be here anymore and we’ll be wishing for these days again. Even if it’s just a Christmas movie on the couch with the kiddies, a nice walk with  Mam, a long catch-up with your bestie or a sneaky drink with Grandad, these moments make precious memories.

Christmas can be a tough time for some and while it’s all merriment and joy for lots of people it can be a lonely sad time for others who may be going through a difficult time or living away from home. If you think someone you know might not be having the best Christmas maybe drop them a text to see how they are or call in for a cuppa….you could make all the difference to that persons Christmas with the simple gift of a friendship.

While we’re feeling all soppy we just want to say a massive THANK YOU to all of you for making the first few months of Lisas’Livin’Pretty the success it was. When we started the blog all we hoped was for people to read it and we’ve been blown away by all your support. We’ve had a blast and are super excited to see what 2016 has in store.

And lastly we want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, we hope Santy comes and it’s everything you wished for and more. After all it’s the most wonderful time of the year……..

Until next time,

Christmas Gift Guide – Under €20

Hi Lovelies,

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and didn’t get blown away in all that wind and rain!! We’ve been keeping busy getting ready for Christmas and doing a little bit of shopping for gifts. And here we are, it’s that time of the week again,….time to look at this weeks Christmas gift idea.

Many of you will have heard of Chocolate Box jewellery before. With over 8,000 followers on Facebook this little jewellery business is really taking off and it’s easy to see why. This jewellery is absolutely beautiful with many of the pieces being victorian inspired. I have never seen such a choice of colours before , there is every colour and shade of gem stone you could imagine. This makes finding the right pieces of jewellery to compliment a special outfit a doddle. We think the massive selection of earrings are to die for but there’s also pendants, rings and bracelets in the collection. You will even find pocketwatches, tie pins and cufflinks for the man in your life……that’s pops sorted then! We also know one or two brides who wore stunning chocolate box pieces on their big day!!

From a small pair of stud earrings to the most elaborate statement neckpiece there is something at Chocolate Box to fit every budget, keeping in mind our €20 guide.

Angela Burns is the woman behind Chocolate Box and her showroom and studio is based in Rhode, Co.Offaly. When you walk into her showroom it’s definitely like Aladdins cave, with all the jewellery laid out prettily to browse. You could spend hours there admiring everything, especially if you’re a magpie like us.

One thing we love about Chocolate Box is their generosity, Angela really looks after her customers!! Every Chocolate Box customer gets to pick their very own pair of earrings to take away…..for free!! Now if that isn’t a reason to do some Christmas shopping there I don’t know what is. We know it’s tough out there these days for small businesses and freebies are few and far between so for Angela to gift all her customers with a pair of earrings really is lovely.

You will find Chocolate Box on Facebook where there is daily competitions for some fabulous prizes if you’re feeling lucky!! I will leave a link to the page below and you can also find the contact details here..Happy Shopping.

Until next time,

Live Pretty,

Lisa M xx

Step by Step – Cranberry Gold Smokey Eye

Hi Everyone ,

Son of a nutcracker can you believe it’s only 3 weeks to Christmas!!! We are just so excited. As we’ve said before it’s the perfect time of year to step out of your comfort zone and try new things with your makeup, add a little something extra!! Today we are going to show you how to create a gorgeous cranberry and gold toned smokey eye, perfect for party season.

First up, shape your brows!! It’s much easier to blend out your eyeshadow correctly if you have the brow shape framing the eye, it almost gives a shape to follow with your eyeshadow. Use an eyeshadow primer if you like, I used Inglot Under EyeMakeup Base. An eyeshadow primer will prevent creasing, holding your shadow in place and also intensify the colour pigment.

Now to create the cranberry tone I used Inglot shade 74 but any pink/wine/berry colour will work as long as it’s not too dark. Use a round fluffy blending brush to apply this colour in the socket line blending very slightly above the crease. This looks completely dodgy at this stage but stick with it, this is just your base to blend your darker clours onto.

Next up , use some matte brown shadow to darken the crease, blending the same way as before. I used a medium and a dark brown, keeping the dark brown to the outer corners of the socket line. There’s a smokey eye starting to take shape now !!

Now use a flat shader brush to pat a gold shadow on the lid. Start at the inner corner and pat across the lid as far as the other shadow already applied.

Next up, repeat what you have done on top along the lower lashline using a small pointed bullet/pencil brush. So start with your cranberry shadow blended all along the lashline from outer to inner corner. then darken it up with your matte browns, keeping the darker shade towards the outer corner. With the lower lashline, be careful to keep close to the lashes. If we blend to low down we might end up like we had a couple of rounds with Mike Tyson….not a good look!!

Eyeliner is next, I used a black gel liner for a really intense dark line that won’t budge. Apply along the lower waterline with a liner brush and smudge a black eyeshadow on top for a really smokey look. Then apply on upper lid along lashline. Gel eyeliner can be tricky so start with a short line and then extend it bit by bit, it’s much easier to get right doing it this way rather than trying to do it in one perfect line 🙂 Once you have your liner on you can use a black shadow to really smoke out the outer corners depending on how dark you want to go.

Now that the liner is done we are down to a couple of finishing touches. I like to use a highlight along the browbone to lift the brow and give that polished finish to your look. You can use any light coloured powder for this but avoid anything too glittery. Apply with a flat shader brush and then use your blending brush to blend the eges of the highlight and the cranberry together. Also adding a little dot of highlight in the inner corner will really open up the eyes and make them pop. Finish off with a couple of coats of mascara or your favourite false lashes. And there you have it, a super easy and quick eye look that’s festive as fa la la la la la la la laaaaa.

We hope you enjoyed this little step-by-step look and have fun recreating it, let us know what other looks you’d like to see and we’ll get them up asap.

Until next time,

Live Pretty,

Lisa M xx

Penneys Christmas Gift Guide – Under €20

Ho! Ho! Ho! Everyone!!

It is the 1st December so technically I’m allowed to be on the festive side without been stoned for been in the Christmas spirit!

So a while back we had a Penneys Haul post which was a Pt1 series, so I thought why not kill two birds with 1 stone and make it a Christmas gift guide also.

Now if your stuck for a Christmas stocking filler or that teenager that you just don’t know what to buy and have a budget that you have to stick too, well then, this post might just be what you need!

I have come bearing gifts that are all beauty related and surprisingly all added up to under €20, now do I have your attention!!!

Let’s start off with Penneys (Primark) masks.  I have been using these for a while now and let’s just say I’m quite impressed!

We have the Rejuvenate Mask €1.50, which is a Brightening and Moisturising 3D Mask, hey anything that remotely feels like it will brighten up my skin is a definite winner!

Ahh my favourite Nose strips €1.50, I know not the most attractive way to be seen, but these One Step Cleansing Nose Pore Strips with Aloe, are worthy of your attention!

And my all time essential Eye Patches €1.50, now stop me if you don’t agree that anything that says that it will reduce dark circles, is something that you just have to have!  I for one am in desperate need of some dark circle cure, so why not give these a go!!

Not a bad pampering set to have, let’s continue…

Next up is some amazing Eyeshadow sticks that are smudge proof and let’s just say for €2.50, I want Penneys (Primark) to make a bigger selection as these bad boys are simply gorgeous!

They are super pigmented and can be woring either alone or under other eye shadows, you should definitely pick yourself up some as these are a total must-have!  Simply apply from the stick onto the lid and blend out with a fluffy brush, they are that easy!

I used a flash on the above pic so that you could see how fab these are, very festive if I do say so myself!

Also on the beauty hit list are my oh so popular lip favourites!

The No. 15 Liquid Lipstick €2.50, is a very popular choice for the Penney junkies and this beauty along with a lipstick €1.30 and liner €1.50, will no doubt give you extra brownie points in the friendship department!

Now if I have already giving you some inspo on what to get that girl that loves to be beautified, well then we all know that no look is complete until you pop on some lashes, and one thing that Penneys does best is supply some fab lashes!!

These are the Natural lashes, now don’t get distracted by the length of them as these are favourably becoming my go to lashes! For €1.50 you cannot go wrong! The thin band makes it that much easier to apply, remember to always wait until the glue becomes tacky before you place the lashes on the lash line.

We are getting to the end of our budget but just to max it out why not pop in one of Penneys PS Love… Nail Polishes €1.50, with some fab colours in the range I think you will find the perfect colour to fill up that Christmas basket/hamper for your loved one!!

Pic Courtesy of Google

Now that is one beauty basket that I would love to receive!!

The box in case anyone wants to know is also from Penneys, I think it was €5, but don’t quote me as I have it a while now, but it makes a nice little hamper!  (Not included in €20 budget!)

Hope you all have a lovely week in whatever you might be doing!

Until next time!
