Makeup Revolution – Review

image

Hi Lovelies, Happy Monday!!

You might remember a few weeks ago we headed off to the Irish Beauty Show to pick up a few bits and pieces and we were very excited about stopping by the Makeup Revolution stand. Makeup Revolution is a drugstore brand that’s fairly new to Irish shores and up to now has only been available in Superdrug. Any time I was in London I could easily lose a few hours in the Superdrug at the top of Oxford Street browsing the makeup aisles and they always had a huge Makeup Revolution range. So you can imagine our excitement when we heard Makeup Revolution was coming to Ireland. Our friends at Matte To Metallic are brand ambassadors for Makeup Revolution so we have been keeping a close eye on all their social media (Facebook, Instagram : Matte To Metallic, Snapchat : @jennydonohoe283, @ciciclinton, @siobhanscanlon9 ) to see the products in use and we had picked out a few we really liked the look of.

image

So off we headed to the beauty show with our list of products like 2 women on a mission!! Well it turned out we weren’t the only ones on a mission to stock up on Makeup Revolution….the stand was absolutely jammed!! There was barely room to move and people were grabbing products left right and centre! We took that as a good sign though, this stuff must be good! It turned out a lot of the products we had on our wishlists were already sold out but we did manage to pick up a couple of bits and pieces…

image

The two products I managed to get my mitts on were the New-trals vs Neutrals eyeshadow palette and the Vivid Baked Highlighter in Peach Lights and oh my…..I think it’s love!! I knew these products would be decent but I wasn’t expecting to be blown away by them like I was.

image

The eyeshadow palette has a whopping 16 shades. There’s a nice mixture of matte and shimmers in both warm and cool tones which makes this palette so versatile. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and have been able to create soft subtle day looks and dramatic colourful looks. The pigmentation is incredible, especially on the matte shades. The texture of the shadows is very soft and really easy to blend which is fantastic but that can mean they’re a little bit powdery so you just have to be careful to tap off the excess on the brush to prevent fallout on the cheeks.

image

The colours in the palette are named and there’s a little removable insert with the names on it. I think my favourites are Neutral and Adapt which I have been using as transition colours or Trend and New-tral which are the gorgeous bright warm shades I have on in the pictures here. There’s also a handy little brush included, which as they go isn’t the worst. This palette retails at €11.79. That’s 16 really fab eyeshadows for under €12, I can’t get over the value.

image

Now the highlighter…..swoon!! It’s just beautiful. We do have a bit of a soft spot for highlighters here, they’re just so sparkley and gorgeous. And this one is divine. The colour is called Peach Lights but I do think it’s more of a lovely cool-toned pinky hue as opposed to the warm-toned peachy-golden Soft & Gentle or Mary Lou Manizer. So when I swatched it I wasn’t sure how the cool tone would look but it blends in really nice and gives a gorgeous glow. I use it mostly on top of the cheekbone and in the inner corner of the eye to make the eyes really pop. This is in around €3, again unbelievable quality for that price.

image

This isn’t the first time we have reviewed drugstore or budget beauty brands here but I do have to say I think Makeup Revolution really has something special, they just have that edge over other brands. Their products and packaging look and feel like higher-end brands, and the quality is spot-on. And their range of products is huge, from strobe creams to contour palettes to lippies, we want it all!! So far I have just been using these on myself, not because they’re not good enough for my pro kit….it’s just I’m not sure if I want to share them….I think I’ll keep them all to myself!!!! I’ll definitely be purchasing a LOT more Make Revolution now it’s available in Ireland.

image

So as you can  tell I’m VERRRYYYY impressed with my Makeup Revolution buys from the beauty show and  don’t forget to keep an eye out for Lisa D’s review on her Makeup Revolution purchases , she’s busy having fun trialling hers at he moment and will report back soon. If these are anything to go by I’m sure it’ll be another glowing review.

Makeup & Hair Bridal Master Class with Amber Dean & Katrina Kelly from K2hair

Good Morning Ladies!

Happy Monday to you all! So yesterday myself and Lisa Moore took to the road and had a well deserved girls day out!  We both attended the fab Bridal Makeup & Hair master class hosted by Katrina Kelly for K2Har / Push Makeup and Amber Dean from facesbyamberdean.  Both of these ladies are among some of our favourite talented ladies that we both follow so when this masterclass was announced we were all over it!

As makeup artists already its great to always keep up-to-date with trends, this is why we love to attend such classes like these.  Even though we know an extreme amount about makeup etc… there is always something that you might pick up on whether it be a new technique or a new product.  No matter what you do or know there is always something else for you to learn.

Amber Dean is one of the best makeup artists out there and for me she has such a distinctive look to her makeup, I suppose its like a trade mark, you know when someone has been ‘Amberfied’!!  She is such a sweet lady and I was really inspired by her and motivated to really bring out my creative side.  What I like most about Amber is how down to earth she was and so approachable.  This class would be especially perfect for someone starting out in the makeup field as she runs through all her products, kit essentials and must-haves definitely keep any eye out for further classes as this is one not to be missed. Amber is also on snapchat @itsambermdean for those that want to see what she gets up to (bascically stalk)!!

When we entered K2Hair we were greeted by the gorgeous Katrina and Amber who both looked amazing might I add.  We have been following Katrina and Amber on snapchat forever @katrinaK2hair so to meet her in person was great as we felt like we have known her for so long through her tell all snaps which are lol!  She is a wonderful character to be around, very talented and extremely knowledgeable in her field.

Katrina is the owner of K2hair which is based in Cabra and Glasnavin she is also the creator of Push-Makeup which I have been adding to my makeup kit collection as some of you may have seen on my snap chat recently.  And I can honestly say that I am mad about, but anyway that’s another post.

We had a fab goody bag or OSCAR bag as Katrina calls them and my were we spoilt with some fab products inside!

The first of five demos to take place started with Katrina who showed us the very popular and most requested hair do ‘Vintage Waves’.  Katrina used Amber as her model and showed us step by step how to create this look using the Tondeo Cerion Curve to perfect the vintage waves.  This can be purchased for €120 and can be ordered by contacting K2hair directly!  Katrina swears by this hair tool for smooth curls without that dreaded pulling on the head when been used!

We then moved onto Amber Deans first bridal demo. The look Amber wanted was a bronzed beachy bridal look and that she did!  The look was flawless due to the great skin prep that I always harp on about.  Skin prep is so important to a flawless makeup application and Amber really spoke so well about this and key products on how to perfect the skin.

I loved this look it was so simple but yet captured the exact bridal look that Amber wanted to achieve.  With Katrina adding her beachy wave hair style to complete the look!  To create this type of beachy wave you simply curl in different directions this way the curls will not marry into each other to form one big curl!  Using the Joico Hair Shake to give a little texture to the look .  I have this product and adore it, its exactly as Katrina said, “its kinda in between a styling product and a dry shampoo but not as white as a dry shampoo, it will expand the hair” which basically gives texture to the hair.

The next look came from Amber which was another bridal look with a bit more of a dramatic twist.  This look would be for more the funky bride that wants something a little edgier for her big day.  The dark smokey eye with the inner v liner and flick topped with a beautiful pigment from Inglot, this look was amazing and really pulled out Amber’s makeup artists talent.  The technique Amber uses in her makeup is definitely something that I will learn from and hope to practice with my own clients.  Like I said at the beginning you can always keep learning!

The fifth and final demo of the night was by Katrina who created this badass hair updo using padding to create this funky bun style with a twist.  At first we were like what the hell is going on but again Katrina pulled off a beautiful creative style in probably 5 minutes!

So that’s what we got up to yesterday.  It’s so nice to attend classes like these, you get to meet new people and discuss topics such as makeup, hair and more with girls that have the same passion as you.

I would highly recommend any future classes that these duo hold.  A very down to earth chilled out evening with Katrina Kelly and Amber Dean is a must for all you hair and makeup enthusiasts out there.

This will more then likely not be the last that we will be seen these two ladies!

Thanks for reading and hope you felt like you were part of this class to!

Until next time xx

Bridal Beauty – Our Essential Products

image

Hi Lovelies

As makeup artists the arrival of Spring means one thing……WEDDING SEASON!! We’re busy prepping our kits for the busiest time of the year. We’ve been working as bridal makeup artists for a long time now and inevitably we have found some favourite products along the way. As you probably know by now, we are the ultimate makeup junkies and when new products come on the market we are always first in the queue. No matter how many newbies we try though, there are old reliable’s that we always come back to. It’s the most important day of the brides life and probably the most important makeup of her life too….working on a bride the morning of her wedding is not the time to be trying a new product for the first time to see how it fares. We’ll always go back to the tried and tested products that never fail and we thought you guys might like to know what we swear by….

Estee Lauder DoubleWear Light Foundation

image

It really is all about that base and when it comes to bridal makeup and this foundation never lets me down. It has all the coverage that the original DoubleWear has but with a much lighter formula that looks flawless on the skin. I find it works lovely on all skin types and only needs to be powdered if the skin is very oily. Without powder it has a nice fresh finish that stays put all day. It’s available in shades 0.5 (lightest) to 6 (darkest) and I find I use shades 2 and 3 the most. At around €38 it’s not cheap, but it sure is worth it for our beautiful brides.

Mac Paintpot
image

One of the things we get asked most is how we get the makeup to last so long. We’ve had reports of perfect makeup well into the early hours and even the next day (not that we would ever recommend going to bed with your makeup on!!) And part of the answer is using long-lasting products as a base for every step. With eyemakeup this comes in the form of Macs ProLongwear Paintpots. These are cream eyeshadows with serious staying power. Buffed on to the eyelid and into the crease they create the perfect base for any eye look just apply your powder eyeshadows on top, although they can also be worn alone. They come in lots of colours but the most used for bridal makeup would probably be Painterly (beige matte), Bare Study (cream pearl),  Rubenesque (light gold pearl) or Groundwork (light brown matte). Again not the cheapest at €21 each but definitely worth every penny.

Inglot AMC Gel Eyeliner
image

Now I’m fairly sure we’ve mentioned this eyeliner on here before because it really is the best gel liner out there. On the brides big day she’s going to want peace of mind that her makeup is not going anywhere….even if there’s a few happy tears. So waterproof liner and mascara are an absolute must. This liner is the only one I’ve found to be truly waterproof, this stuff does not budge unless cleansed off with an oil-based makeup remover. I use shade 77 and it’s the blackest black and not that wishywashy greyish black you can get with other gel liners. Strong eyeliner is not everyone’s choice for their wedding day but this liner also works lovely blended softly into the lash line to create a more subtle definition. This is a bit of a bargain at €15 and even if it was double the price, I’d still buy it!!

This list could go on and on, we didn’t even mention skincare or fixing sprays, brow products or lippies but maybe we’ll leave them for another blog post. Next weekend we are off to a Bridal Makeup Masterclass with the AMAZING Amber Dean (look her up if you haven’t already!!) so no doubt we’ll come home with a list of new products we’ll be adding to the bridal kit.

Mac Makeup Haul Pt 2

Hello Ladies,

Previously I posted what foundations and concealers I purchased for my makeup kit that are completely essential for any budding makeup artist or die hard beauty junkie.  If you haven’t read it you can here.

My second part of my mac must-haves are of course their eye shadows.  Mac eyeshadows are just the bomb, they are so easily blendable and pigmented that you just can’t resist diving into their collection when you hit the store.  With a wide range to choose from its easy to pick up your favourite colour to make those twinkly eyes pop!

These are the ones I purchased starting with the very popular Texture, which is actually new to me, haven’t tried it before but it looks like a great transition colour. I have seen lots of MUA use it and of course had to have.

Texture by Mac Cosmetics

Then I just repurchased my favourites Patina and Satin Taupe.

Patina has to be the perfect lid colour for that natural but sutble smokey eye.  This is one of my go to shades for brides that want that soft smokey eye using neutral shades.

Patina by Mac
Satin Taupe has been one of my must-haves since I first bought my first one 5 years ago.  This colour is the perfect mauve/purple lid colour it’s amazing, if you don’t have this and are a complete Mac head you will not be disappointed.

Satin Taupe by Mac Cosmetics
Next up is a product I haven’t used before which is the Extented Play Lash Mascara.

To be honest, to me mascara is mascara, but I was really curious to try this out as I have seen the likes of my fav youtuber Jaclyn Hill and other MUA use this and wanted to see what the hype was all about.

I will update you when I test it out.  Appartently its great for the lower lashes and the wand is super small, which makes it easier and alot less messer to apply.  We’ll see!!

Next up was a new lippy!  If you haven’t heard of the Back to Mac concept well listen up!  Any mac 6 empties that you have can be brought back to the store and you receive a free lipstick of your choice, now isn’t that a bonus!  My choice was this beautiful deep wine colour a very vampy choice but wanted to get something different then a nude, as this is always my go to colour.  I haven’t tried this out but the swatch will give you an indicator of how this looks.

I then of course topped up my Strobe Cream and Fix Plus these two products are my holy grail products for prepping clients skin before makeup.  I have already expressed my love for these so Ill say no more!
So that’s it a very quick round up of my latest visit to Mac and probably my last for a while!!

Any questions on the products mentioned above just leave a comment below or on our facebook page Lisas’Livin’Pretty.

Until next time lovelies!

Christmas Party Look!

Hello Ladies!!

Yeahhhh it’s Christmas Party season and we all know what that means, new festive styles, shops been hit hard looking for that special outfit that is going to make you look drop dead gorgeous, bank balance at an all time low, well fear not as I have found some nice little pieces for you to through your eye over and not only that I will show you a makeup inspo look to match! Tadahhh!!

First up has to be from Penneys Christmas Party Look! Penneys is totally in the game when it comes to bang on trend style, there pieces would give the likes of other well known brands a run for their money!!

Jacket €40, Top €10, Skirt €12, Shoes €23

This look is my favourite! Totally up my ally with the leather skirt which is such a statement piece in itself!

Next up is a gorgeous Playsuit from Topshop, now I know these can be quite complicating when we get a few beverages into us, but hey that’s what friends are for right?!!

Topshop Playsuit €98 , Heels €18 , Clutch €10 both Penneys

The Playsuit is quite expensive so this is why I choose the heels and clutch from Penneys, just to show that you can overindulge in one item but save in another!!

Next up is from Dorethy Perkins !  Of course I had to feature a LBD but this one is with sequins!  Definitely a party show stopper that can be easily accessoried with just a simple black heel!

Dress €45, Heels €29,

Now to choose a makeup look for your Christmas night!  Well to be honest you cannot go wrong with a classic red lip!  It’s classy, elegant and compliments any outfit! My favourite combo has to be Mac Cosmetics Cherry lip liner paired with Russian Red lipstick!  On the eyes I wore a nude/gold shade on the lid and smoked it out using shades of browns, underneath I applied a brown kohl pencil and smudged it out using a flat head brush with a soft brown shadow to help blend it out!

That’s it from me ladies, hope you all have a fab weekend and have a ball at all the parties you get to attend!

Until next time ladies!

Penneys Christmas Gift Guide – Under €20

Ho! Ho! Ho! Everyone!!

It is the 1st December so technically I’m allowed to be on the festive side without been stoned for been in the Christmas spirit!

So a while back we had a Penneys Haul post which was a Pt1 series, so I thought why not kill two birds with 1 stone and make it a Christmas gift guide also.

Now if your stuck for a Christmas stocking filler or that teenager that you just don’t know what to buy and have a budget that you have to stick too, well then, this post might just be what you need!

I have come bearing gifts that are all beauty related and surprisingly all added up to under €20, now do I have your attention!!!

Let’s start off with Penneys (Primark) masks.  I have been using these for a while now and let’s just say I’m quite impressed!

We have the Rejuvenate Mask €1.50, which is a Brightening and Moisturising 3D Mask, hey anything that remotely feels like it will brighten up my skin is a definite winner!

Ahh my favourite Nose strips €1.50, I know not the most attractive way to be seen, but these One Step Cleansing Nose Pore Strips with Aloe, are worthy of your attention!

And my all time essential Eye Patches €1.50, now stop me if you don’t agree that anything that says that it will reduce dark circles, is something that you just have to have!  I for one am in desperate need of some dark circle cure, so why not give these a go!!

Not a bad pampering set to have, let’s continue…

Next up is some amazing Eyeshadow sticks that are smudge proof and let’s just say for €2.50, I want Penneys (Primark) to make a bigger selection as these bad boys are simply gorgeous!

They are super pigmented and can be woring either alone or under other eye shadows, you should definitely pick yourself up some as these are a total must-have!  Simply apply from the stick onto the lid and blend out with a fluffy brush, they are that easy!

I used a flash on the above pic so that you could see how fab these are, very festive if I do say so myself!

Also on the beauty hit list are my oh so popular lip favourites!

The No. 15 Liquid Lipstick €2.50, is a very popular choice for the Penney junkies and this beauty along with a lipstick €1.30 and liner €1.50, will no doubt give you extra brownie points in the friendship department!

Now if I have already giving you some inspo on what to get that girl that loves to be beautified, well then we all know that no look is complete until you pop on some lashes, and one thing that Penneys does best is supply some fab lashes!!

These are the Natural lashes, now don’t get distracted by the length of them as these are favourably becoming my go to lashes! For €1.50 you cannot go wrong! The thin band makes it that much easier to apply, remember to always wait until the glue becomes tacky before you place the lashes on the lash line.

We are getting to the end of our budget but just to max it out why not pop in one of Penneys PS Love… Nail Polishes €1.50, with some fab colours in the range I think you will find the perfect colour to fill up that Christmas basket/hamper for your loved one!!

Pic Courtesy of Google

Now that is one beauty basket that I would love to receive!!

The box in case anyone wants to know is also from Penneys, I think it was €5, but don’t quote me as I have it a while now, but it makes a nice little hamper!  (Not included in €20 budget!)

Hope you all have a lovely week in whatever you might be doing!

Until next time!
