Makeup Geek Haul

Hello Ladies,

So 2/3 weeks ago all our social media sites were on fire when news broke that the most sought after makeup brand ‘Makeup Geek‘ was going to be a lot more easier to access!  Beauty Bay is a UK beauty site that supplies makeup brands that are not so easy to get your hands on without having to pay way to much on custom charges.   Needless to say when they tweeted their intentions, all us beauty junkies did a ridiculous yelp or dance, it was like Christmas had come early!!

Makeup Geek is a brand that supplies affordable eyeshadows that are just beautiful and so pigmented.  They have a huge selection of shades to choose from and I for one want them all!  So of course I had to purchase some. Having been my first time to order Makeup Geek, I wanted them all but I opted for just a few.  So below I will give you a run down on the shadows I purchased along with the Z Palette that is a total must!

The Z Palette is a total must have in my opinion.  It holds up to 27 eyeshadow pans and for €18.70 it is totally worth it you can buy it here .  I love using palette’s its an easy way for storing your eyeshadows while also having your favourite to hand!

The eyeshadows are just amazing, so much shades to choose from.  For me though I opted for brown/rustic colours as these are what I generally run low on all the time because they are so popular.  I will list all the shades I purchased below.  These pans are €6.90 and available here.

Top Row L to R:  Mirage, Beaches & Cream, Purely Naked, Frappe, Barcelona Beach, Latte

2nd Row L to R:  Sorbet, Cinderella, Roulette, Country Girl, Brown Sugar, Mocha

Bottom Row L to R:  Hipster, Bleached Blonde, Last Dance, Curfew

Another little note to consider is that Beauty Bay offer free delivery to Ireland on orders over €22, which I am sure won’t be a problem.  As its Black Friday they also have the above at discount prices, so if you are interested now is the time to invest!

Also have a look at the Makeup Geek website as it offers a selection of makeup tutorials using there shadows so you get to see them in action, Marlene who is the creator of this brand is amazing at makeup and offers terrific knowledge on how to apply makeup.  Go check her out here.

Happy shopping everyone and I hope you have a delightful weekend whatever your plans are!

Until next time,

Our Christmas Gift Guide – Under €20

Hi Everyone.

Welcome to the next instalment of our Christmas Gift Guide. We hope you’re loving it so far ♡ This week’s gift is something we’ve found under our tree once or twice other years and absolutely loved…….anything by Soap & Glory!!

Soap & Glory are a British cosmetic company that started out with just a lip gloss, the now iconic Sexy Mother Pucker gloss. Shortly after that their gorgeous body butter The Righteous Butter and their skincare was winning awards and now they have a full range of makeup, skincare, bath and body products. And every single thing we have tried is divine!!

The full-size bath and body products come in around €10-€15 euro but it’s the Christmas Gift Sets that we really love. These sets start as low as €7 and go all the way up to €60ish. The smaller sets contain mini or travel sized products which are perfect way to try a few different lotions and potions while the bigger sets have full-size products….swoon!! So we have picked out our favourite sets below the €20 mark.

For the Pamper Queen…..

Sugar Crush is probably my favourite Soap & Glory product. It’s an exfoliator made from brown sugar and lime, seriously good enough to eat!! This Once Upon A Lime set looks yum with four Sugar Crush products and a shower puff 🙂

Belle Of The Ball has to be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, a giant bauble filled with goodies!! There’s a nice mix of products in this set with a body wash, scrub, body butter, hand cream and shower puff. And we’d most definitely be keeping that giant bauble for super cute storage ♡

Soaper Woman is a simple set with two of Soap & Glorys best selling products…full-size. This set might be less frills but it’s fantastic value and quality products.

For the Make-Up Queen…..image

Gloss It Girl is a set of the iconic Sexy Mother Pucker lipgloss in 5 shades. If you haven’t heard of this gloss it’s a lip plumping formula that gives you a pout to rival Kylie Jenner!! The shades included range from light pink to nudes to deeper peach and pink, all very wearable. And with each gloss working out at €4 each, total bargain!!

Crazy Sexy Kohl is a set of 5 kohl eyeliner pencils. Kohl is a really soft formula that goes on easy and can be used as a defined liner or blended easily into a smudgier look. The colours included in this set are black, brown, turquoise, navy and purple so there’s endless possibilities to the eye looks you could create. Another option if you have lots of stockings to fill, is to divide up the sets. If you bought one gloss set and one kohl set and divided them up, you could give 5 friends a gloss and a liner each, that’s 5 presents sorted for €40. And with Boots 3 for 2 you could even treat yourself to a little gift ♡

All these are available from Boots and I will leave a link below, Happy Shopping 🙂

Until Next Time,

Amp Up Your Winter Makeup with 3 Simple Swaps

Hi Ladies,

Hope you are all well and looking forward to the weekend. With only 5 weekends between now and Christmas you’re probably starting to organise a Christmas night out or maybe your office party for sometime soon. We love our Christmas nights out, there’s something about hitting the town in the run up to Christmas that just feels more glam than our usual nights out. We usually dress up a bit more, break out the glitz a little bit!! We see people at Christmas that we might not see from one end of the year to the next, we bump into old friends and catch up with our closest ones. And we want to look good while we’re at it. If you feel like trying something new with your makeup or just changing up your normal look a little bit, it’s much easier to do than you might think. You don’t need to go out and buy lots of new products to create a whole new look, just try swapping a couple of bits to amp up your look to something a bit different.

Darker Lips

One easy step is swapping your usual lippy for a seasonal berry shade. Anything like a plum, deep cranberry or oxblood red are perfect for this time of year. Just wearing a bolder lip can totally transform your look with minimal effort and won’t break the bank. You can’t go wrong with Penneys PS Love range, Pictured is their Berry lipliner for €1.50 and Matte Lip Crayon in Dark Purple for €2.50!! So on-trend and so affordable! Other favourites are Kate Moss for Rimmel and NYX. And of course Mac “Rebel” and “Diva”.

Eyeshadow Pigments

Next up, try swapping your regular eyeshadows for pigments. Pigments come in a pot or jar and tend to be more intense than ordinary shadows. They are a loose powder formula and really pack a serious punch when pressed onto the eyelid with a flat brush. There’s different finishes to pigments like normal shadows, you can get matte, shimmer, sparkle and even two-tone. I find the sparkle or two-tone ones the best for a “wow” look. A few of my favourites are Inglot #14, #82 and #85 and Mac “Tan”. All the Barry M ones are amazing quality too at a budget friendly price . A good tip if you find your pigment doesn’t stick is to use a cream eyeshadow first and then press the pigment on top.

And lastly, how about swapping that contour for lots and lots of highlight. Strobing has been the buzzword lately and  we’re all only just getting our heads around contouring!! You’ll be glad to hear strobing is much less complicated. It focuses on enhancing the features of the face with illuminators or highlighters, leaving a light ,fresh, glowy complexion. Illuminating creams like Mac Strobe Cream or Boots Radiance Balm are used under foundation , dot it along the high points of the face and blend in with your fingers in a tapping motion for a really natural glow. Use a dome or angled shape fluffy brush to dust highlighting powder on the cheekbone, browbone, down the centre of the nose and the cupids bow. You will have seen us mention all our favourites here before including Sleek Solstice Palette, The Balm Mary Lou-Manizer, Mac Soft & Gentle and Becca Champagne Pop.

So there you have it, our three secret weapons for the makeup we’ll be rockin’ this festive season!! Let us know if you give it a go and tag us in your selfies 🙂

Until next time,

Live Pretty,

A Christmas Gift Guide – Under €20 Pt 2

Hey everyone!

Welcome back for part 2 of our Christmas Gift Guide!

So who has that mother, daughter, sister, niece or friend that hoards their makeup or has a stack of old Chinese takeaway containers that are cramped with eyeshadow pots, lipsticks or mascaras up on windowsills, if so, this post will be your Christmas present lifesaver!

Makeup storage has become a huge thing at the moment with the HerClutterBox storage system splashed all over the net, but let’s be real they are just way to expensive to purchase as a pressie!  So below are just simple inexpensive acrylic storage systems that might suit that person in your life that just needs a little organisation in the makeup department!

So let’s start off with this lip stick storage piece!

I purchased this a couple of weeks ago in our favourite bargain shop Dealz for €2.00!  How cute would this look on a makeup unit or desk? It stores 6 lippys as well as 6 lip liners that stand neatly along with there paired lipstick!

I also picked up this cute love heart shaped  container with lid.  This is from Dealz also for €2.00! (click on link to find your nearest store).

I use mine to store my cotton pads beside my bed side locker or could be used to place your earrings into, either way I think this is a very chic item to have!

Next up is this fab multi-functional makeup holder from Argos, which I’m sure you will forgive if I tell you is slightly over our under €20 budget, but only by €2.99, which is not going to break the bank!

It has plenty of room for everything from Lipsticks, Liners to Mascaras, I’m sure this would be put into great use! I bet, you would have one very happy lady receiving this.

Next up is this brush holder from Muji they have a store just off Grafton street, it’s a fab little shop stocked with great storage ideas, well worth a visit if your up browsing in the city with plenty of other items that would help with your over stock of makeup!!

I purchased two of these nearly two years ago and can’t quite remember the price but I’m certain they were less then €20 each.  A great little system to store your brushes and other makeup essentials!

Last up is this 2 drawer desk storage for practical storing of eyeshadows, jewellery etc… Whatever you use this for I am sure it won’t go to waste!

I use mine to store my paint pots and pigments which is very handy and tidy looking.  You can purchase this from Muji also for about €12.00.

Homestore and More also have acrylic storage systems that also might be worth taking a trip to!
We hope you found this weeks gift guide somewhat helpful and keep an eye out for next weeks post for other gift inspiration!
Remember only 6 weeks remaining so get your skates on and be organised!
Until next time ladies and gents!

Hello…it’s Adele’s Eye Makeup Step by Step!

Hello Ladies!

I think we can all agree that we will never be able to say hello to anyone without wanting to breakout into a full on It’s me…chorus!!!

But to say that I am totally addicted to this tune is an understatement, having said that her makeup look seems to be even more addictive!  This look that Adele wears in the video is very similar to what she already wears, but for some reason it just stands out from all her other looks!

Her makeup artist Michael Ashton just knows exactly how to enhance this already beautiful lady,  by emphasizing her eyes and and using great contour techniques to elaborate her already chiseled cheek bones!  Whatever he is doing is amazing and I am all about this makeup look!

Now, I am by no means or in anyway, look like Adele, but this is just my interpretation of her Hello Video look.  So why not make a step by step guide of her eye look and give you some pointers in the right direction in how to achieve a similar look!

So let’s go for it…

First up is a base!  I like to use Mac Cosmetics Painterly Paint Pot as a base, as not only can it act as a great primer but also sets matte, so you can use other shadows on top!  I use my Crown Brush C124 to apply all over lid and up to brow bone.

Secondly, I then go in with another MAC Cosmetics eye shadow in Blanc Type, this vanilla/bone coloured shadow is also a good base colour and a great shade if you want to keep that lid looking bright and fresh!  Using a Mac Brush in 252 I again apply this on lid and up to brow bone.

I then use Wedge from Mac as a transition colour, which is a shade that will help blend with another darker shade and make it easier to give that more gradient finish!  Using my Inglot 6ss brush to apply and blend into my crease, which is the area just below your brow bone and above the lid.  Using window wiper motions (back and forth) until you build up the colour to give you that slight darker crease or contoured eye area!

Then with Cork, again another Mac shade, this is a warmer soft brown shade that will help to just intensify that socket area!  Using Blank Canvas E26 to apply with the same technique as above, blend in with the Wedge shade. Then go back to your 6ss brush and blend the two colours again so that you get that soft diffused look!

Keep both colours separated from the lid, as we want the lid to just have that Blanc type shadow as this will act as a highlight for the lid!

Now for the star of the show is Adele’s liner!  Adele always wear’s a thick liner because she has the lid space to carry it off!  This might not suit everybody as we don’t all have the same eye shape, so if you find that you don’t have that much space between your lid and start of crease, keep the liner thin on the lash line, if you do have the space well you can do the thick liner!

Using Inglots 13T ankled brush, I like to start from the outside and work inwards, people differ, this is just the way I do it, but do whatever way works best for you!

No Adele look is complete without lashes! I used Ardell’s Demi Wispes but any lashes will work!

These are the brushes that I used and couldn’t be without!  But if you have anything similar I’m sure it will work just fine!

Hope you like my first step by step makeup look, if this is something you would like to see more off, please leave a comment below and maybe we can do a monthly makeup tutorial!!

Until next time ladies!!

All About That Base – Part 1

Hi lovelies 🙂

Can anyone remember what we did before primer? These days it’s definitely a must-have product in every girls makeup bag! Primers generally have two main functions- to smooth the skins texture before foundation and to make the foundation last longer. As well as this though there are lots of primers on the market for colour correction, hydration and even illuminating the skin. Today though we are going to give you our top picks of primers suitable for us girls with oily skin.

Oily skin can be tricky when it comes to makeup. We want to mattify the skin without making it look dull and we want a healthy glow but not a shine. Finding that balance is hard. We have tried and tested 4 different primers specifically formulated for oily skins and here’s how we got on……

First up..NO.7 Beautifully Matte Makeup Base

This has a strange texture almost like toothpaste. It’s thick and can be hard to spread across the skin, but once it’s on it’s not going anywhere!! You have to work quick though and get your foundation on before the primer starts to “set” underneath. I found this one to work well , my foundation lasted really well with very little shine.

€14.50 Boots Nationwide

Next we tried NYX Shine Killer

We had high hopes for this one as we have have been really impressed with everything else we have tried from NYX recently. This has a clear gel-like consistency and it’s easy and quick to apply…but it didn’t really feel like it soaked in to the skin. Foundation was easy to apply on top but I’m afraid I didn’t notice any difference in shine or longevity using this one.

€15.50 Selected Pharmacies Nationwide or

Next up Inglot Mattifying Under Makeup Base

After using Inglots original Under Makeup Base and not getting on too well with it, I wasn’t sure how this one was going to work out. But being the devoted makeup obsessive I am, of course I was gonna have to buy it and see. This formula of this one is like a mix of the No7 and the NYX. It’s like a gel but when you apply it to the face you can feel it mattifying the skin straight away like a paste. It also seemed to blur out some imperfections and large pores…bonus!! My foundation lasted all day with this one with only minor touch ups on the cheeks, instead of my usual blotting sheets and powder every couple of hours. I was really impressed with this and it’s now my go-to everyday primer.

€22 Inglot Stores Nationwide

Last up Catrice Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base

This primer is a total bargain at only €5.49 and Catrice always deliver when it comes to quality at an affordable price. This one is creamier than the others and felt like a moisturiser when applied. It settled in to the skin nicely and my foundation sat well on top. I did notice an improvement in the shine with this one but not as much as the Inglot or No7 ones. But for €5.49 it’s definitely worth having in my kit.

€5.49 Selected Pharmacies and Penneys Nationwide

So after a few weeks of trying these the Inglot Mattifying Under Makeup Base has been my favourite,. Although it is more expensive, it’s worth it to get the base right. I loved No7 Beautiully Matte too but I will probably only wear this occasionally as it did feel quite thick and dry on the skin. The Catrice Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base comes in in 3rd place while the NYX Shine Killer is getting relegated to the “stuff I never use” drawer!! Sorry NYX we do love you but this just didn’t work out 😦

We will have our next installment of our All About That Base series coming soon, looking at the best primers for dry skin. In the meantime let us know any favourites you have that we might have missed….

Until next time,

Live Pretty,

Lisa M xx

Wet n Wild Megalast Nail Polishes

Hi Ladies,

Today’s post is all about Nails!  So if your the girl that likes to lash on the polishes and do the little nail selfie well these Wet n Wild Nail Polishes are going to be your BFF!    I have four of the Megalast in my collection and thought I’d share my thoughts on them.  Now I’m the one that loves getting the shellac or gelish nails done every 2/3 weeks but when I’m on a little break from them, these are my go to polishes that give that quick and easy application.

Wet n Wild’s new formulation for the Megalast polishes has to be their best yet, with the thick and creamy consistency, which makes the application a lot easier in my opinion.

The best part from the Megalast line is the brush!  It gives excellent coverage and spreads perfectly along the nail bed.  Not to unlike other brands which seem to be upping their game in the nail brush department, but this is definitely a good selling point on Wet n Wild’s behalf.

With a measly price tag of €2.99, I think these nail polishes are super fantastic and with a price on its head like this, it’s well worth the investment.

So let’s go through some of my collection just to give you an idea of shades!

Sugar Coat:  Is a gorgeous pale milky, peachy-pink shade, which is the perfect shade for a natural finish or could be used as a base colour for french tips.  This colour would most definitely need 2/3 if not 4 coats just to get the perfect payoff.

Undercover:  This brownish/pinky shade will probably not be everyone’s cup of tea but I like it as it’s the perfect all rounder of a colour.  It feels more like a mature ladies colour (hey who am I kidding I am mature!!) sound’s weird I know, but I still like it.  1-2 coats is ideal for this shade.

Wet Cement:  Don’t let the name ruin your judgement on this colour, as this is one of my favourites.  I am a sucker for nude tone shades and this ticks all the right boxes.  In my opinion its more of a brownish/mauve colour, the perfect seasonal colour which would jazz up any outfit , I love it, this is definitely one of my top nail colour picks.  1-2 coats is perfect for application.

On a Trip:  This medium purple shade is perfect for spring/summer and the payoff is gorgeous only taken 1-2 coats to apply, I think this colour is definitely a must-have for any nail polish collector.

Overall I am a total Wet n Wild fan not only are they upping their game in the makeup department, but their nail polishes are running wild on the nail department scales!  I will definitely be purchasing some more in this Megalast range and I see they have launched some fantastic new shades to their collection.

Check them out @ WetnWild or your nearest stockists!

Thanks Ladies if you have read this far!!

Until next time
